Room 13 (ICT) - Introductory Session

Classroom Entry
- Two lines outside the door.
- Shoes off, paired together, toes pointing towards the wall, clear of the door.

Logging On
- Security of username and password - Network system allows user to access saved files from any computer
- Student Shares (Robot guy) Username / password: NO capital letters; NO spaces (No caps, no gaps).
- How do you know your computer has logged on properly? Light grey, line, shared areas, full dock.

Logging Off
- How to log off? Top left corner, pull down to log out.
- Introduce keyboard shortcuts ⌘Q = Quit, Shift⌘Q = Log off
- Why is logging off is so important? – Life skill – security of personal accounts especially on a shared computer. We NEVER shut down without logging out.

Description of Desktop
- Mac HD My Computer: the hard drive of the machine
- Shared Documents: a place that every user (student or teacher) has access to
- Dock: shortcuts to frequently used applications programs (like Windows Quick Launch)
- Home folder and contents – through Students volume, separated into graduation groups – Year 7 2017, Year 8 2016, Year 9 2015 then alphabetical.
Scavenger Hunt
- Choose an application that is in the ‘Application’ folder, but not on the dock (eg. Preview). Ask the students to open it – use the search tool in finder; or the spotlight search tool. Close it correctly (⌘Q or Application menu > Quit), independently. It will have disappeared from the dock.

Before exiting, ensure:
- All applications are quit. This ensures any temporary work files, used by applications, are deleted.
- All computers are logged off with the standard log on screen displayed
- Keyboard is placed on the computer stand (silver metal foot)
- Mouse is next to the keyboard
- Headphones are on the hook
- Chairs are pushed in
- Work space is clean and tidy
- Personal items are removed

Printing
Print jobs go to the Room 13 printer

Saving Your Work
- All Apple Apps have the same command. At the Tool Bar Select ‘File’ then ‘Save’. The short cut is ‘command S’.
